St. David has a rich history as a Catholic learning community. The school opened as a junior high school in 1965 with grades 7 to 10. In 1985 we received full funding from the Ministry of Education, and we began to offer a wide range of programming from grades 9 to OAC. In the 1991 – 92 school year, St. David underwent a major facility expansion including the addition of a new library, auditorium, broad-based technology labs, triple gym, fitness center, computer labs and additional classrooms. In 2009 the school again expanded the facility to include six new, well-equipped science labs, cosmetology lab, culinary arts lab and an artificial turf multi-use lighted sports field. St. David is currently home to approximately 950 students and a staff of 80 teachers, educational assistants, child & youth care workers, administrative assistants & support staff, custodians and administration.
The staff at St. David is dedicated to providing our students with a quality education. We have high standards for our students and provide them with the support to reach their full potential across all post-secondary pathway destinations. Our student success initiatives and dedicated classroom teachers ensure students will achieve their academic goals and develop personal responsibility and pride in their work.
This commitment to our students begins with our LINK Grade 9 orientation and extends throughout their entire high school career with opportunities to become involved inside and outside of the classroom. We use the Umbrella skills (such as empathy, understanding, kindness, gratitude, mindfulness) to teach students that we are a community who values all members as we live out our gospel values in our day to day interactions where we believe in success for each and strive to be a place for all.
St. David C.S.S. offers a full range of competitive athletics and an award winning intramural program. Our varsity Celtics win many league titles and earn the privilege of representing District 8 Athletics at the Regional and Provincial level. We also provide a rich array of clubs, activities and artistic performances that collectively meet the extracurricular needs of our diverse school community. Some of the many extracurricular activities sponsored by school staff include; Student Council, Skills Canada Competitions, FIRST Robotics, environmental and social justice clubs, academic competitions, dramatic and musical productions, and LINK Crew. Students are encouraged to engage in some aspect of Celtic life to enhance their high school experience.
St. David C.S.S. works in partnership with families, local parishes, associate elementary schools and the surrounding community to create responsible citizens, discerning believers and life-long learners. We strive to provide all students with the knowledge, skills and values that will empower them to transform their world in light of their faith so that they can go forth and continue being a beacon of hope in our world. We look forward to welcoming you into our Celtic family.
